FIRE CHIEFS TO FOCUS ON IRISH HERITAGE AT ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Kerry Fire and Rescue Service will host the 2016 Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA) Conference at the Malton Hotel, Killarney, Co. Kerry, on 4-5 May.

Topics covered during the two-day event will include decision-making by fire service incident commanders, stress management and operational discretion for fire service leaders. Irish heritage in fire services at home and abroad; and applied psychologies and care in the fire services will form the basis of two central themes of the conference.

Conference speakers will include Sean Hogan, National Director for Fire & Emergency Management (NDFEM), Brian Sweeney, international advisor to the NDFEM board, Dr Sabrina Cohen-Hatton, London Fire Brigade, and Prof Hugh McCauley of Trinity College Dublin.

Conference Secretary and Kerry’s Chief Fire Officer, Michael Hession said a unique aspect this yeaer will be the focus on the rich Irish heritage of fire services across the US and further afield. “We welcome fire chiefs from Massachusetts who, with their families, represent the wonderful contribution of the Irish over generations.”
