NEW AILG PRESIDENT CALLS FOR IMPROVED RESOURCES

Clare’s Cllr Crowe takes over the role of AILG President mid-term following the election of South Dublin County Council’s Cllr Colm Brophy to the Dáil at the General Election.

A highly experienced representative Cllr Crowe has been a member of Clare County Council since 1999 and was Cathlaoirleach in 2015. He has served on a wide variety of local government bodies at local, county and national level.

* AILG ANNUAL CONFERENCE TO ADDRESS RURAL DECLINE

‘Renewal’ will be the central theme of this year’s AILG Conference, which takes place on 5-6 May at the Inishowen Gateway Hotel, Buncrana, Co. Donegal.

The issue of urban dereliction and rural decline, which are of significant concern to urban and rural councillors, will top the agenda at this year’s conference.

And no doubt the recent calls by AILG on behalf of all councillors for a major pay rise will also be discussed, now more so than ever in light of the proposed review of the local government reforms by the Department of the Environment.

* DELEGATE MEETING AT CITY HALL TO MARK 1916 CENTENARY

The bi-monthly AILG delegate meeting will take place on Thursday 28 April at Dublin City Hall as a mark of commemoration regarding the 1916 Rising.
