NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE FOR WICKLOW COUNTY COUNCIL

The newly appointed Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, Emer O’Gorman, who took over the helm on 1 March, has over 28 years’ experience in local government and the public sector, and previously worked in Fingal, Louth, South Dublin and Kildare County Councils.

Emer O’Gorman holds a Bachelor of Business Studies in Accounting and Finance from the IPA/NUI and an MBA from DCU. She started work in South Dublin County Council in August 1994 where she stayed until September 2015 (with one year on secondment to the Residential Tenancies Board and nine months in Kildare County Council) rising from Clerical Officer to Senior Executive Officer.

In October 2015 Emer took up the role of Director of Services (Corporate, HR, Environment & European Relations) in Louth County Council for three years before moving to Fingal County Council in 2018 as Director of Economic, Enterprise, Tourism & Cultural Development. Her last role in Fingal was as Director of People, Corporate & Digital Services.

Her key achievements to date include the development of the regional response to climate action via the set-up of the CARO offices, the organisational reform programme in Louth, leading the Dublin-Belfast Economic Corridor from concept to working network, and leading the Balbriggan Socio-Economic Strategy and Implementation Plan.

Emer O’Gorman was also instrumental in developing and implementing the Fingal Skills Strategy, enhancing Fingal’s tourism offering within the Dublin brand, developing a wellbeing strategy for Fingal, and promoting the ‘Fingal as Employer of Choice’ Campaign.
